Life Reflections Sylvia Yvette Jefferson was born on November 25, 1961 to Ida Mae (Jefferson) and Earl Rogers, Jr. and is the eldest of five born to this union. Sylvia was given the nickname"Pookie" by her uncle, Percy McDade. Afterwards, she was lovingly known as "Poopie" to family/relatives and "Syl-bop" by friends and neighbors. Sylvia gave her life to the Lord at an early age at Corner-stone Missionary Baptist Church, St. Louis, Missouri under the leadership of Reverend Spicer. Sylvia enjoyed attending churchservices and became President of the Junior Usher Ministry. Sylvia attended St. Louis Public Schools and was a student at Enright Elementary,then Soldan High School, where she graduated in 1980. After graduating high school,she attended Forest Park Community College and afterwards, worked in positions that her skills and business knowledge utilized. She was one of the fastest typist and enjoyed clerical work and business. Sylvia enjoyed shopping and was known for her fashions and her well-styled hair. Sylvia wasknown for her cooking skills and her ability to French braid. She learned to cook at an early age and would lead the cooking at holiday family gatherings at home. She would alsoFrench braid or "corn row" anyone's hair, including her siblings. Sylvia was loved by many kidsgrowing up on DeGiverville and she would always babysit for others, as well as her nephews and nieces. She enjoyed traveling and loved to collect glasses from each place she visited or would askwhoever was traveling to bring her back a souvenir shot glass. On July 22, 1994, Sylvia gave birth to her first daughter, Kala S. Taylor, her only child. Sylvia always said"kids - not me", but when she had her own daughter, she was excited and adored her tremendously! She loved and treasured her time being a mom and later, a "NaNa" she lived a loving life and had a love for babies,her family, and her pets. She cherished her time with her granddaughter and family. On July 4, 2021, she was called home. Sylvia leaves to cherish: a daughter, Kala Saretia Taylor; a granddaughter, Kyli Kimora Reed; her parents,Earl Jr. and Ida Mae Rogers; two sisters, Sharon Rogers-Reese and Dorothea (Vincent) Rogers-Darnell; two brothers, Earl III (Nusaybah) Rogers of Rockford, IL and Michael (Kendra) Rogers of Kileen, TX; four nephews, John, Michael, Frederick and Naji; three nieces, Adrian, Ashley and Tavonna;one great-niece, Camille; two great-nephews, Marvin Jr. and Jayden; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
