Simmie Danner

July 11, 1936 — January 10, 2017

Life ReflectionsMr. Simmie Danner was born in Sardis, Mississippi on July 11, 1936 to the union of Cornelius Danner and Louise Green. He lost both his parents at a young age and was raised by his maternal grandmother, Annie Green. He was educated in the Mississippi school system. Simmie departed this life on Sunday Moming, December 10, 2017 at St. John's Place - Rehab Center. Simmie was a long time resident of St. Louis, where he moved after leaving his childhood home in Sardis. For 30 years, he was a Set-up Machinist at Haynes - Albion Corporation (formerly St. Louis Diecast), where he was employed at the time of his retirement in 2001. On October 30, 1965, he married the love of his life, Roslyn Marquita Whany. To that union a son, Vincent, was born. He professed his faith in Christ at an early age. He became a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in 1972. At Asbury, Simmie served on several committees, most notably The United Methodist Men, the Men's Chorus, and Chairperson of the Trustees. Simmie also served as an usher for many years and was always willing to help others. Simmie was always known for his stories about growing up in Sardis, Mississippi. The stories, * especially the ones about the tap stick and hunting, were hilarious. He loved to make everyone laugh. He enjoyed spend-ing time with his family and friends, fishing, watching TV, working on his /awn, which many of us lovingly called the carpet, and working around the house. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandmother who raised him; and his brother Cornelius and sisters, Lou Lee Halbert and Louise Barney. Simmie will forever be loved and remembered by his wife. Roslyn, his son, Vincent, of whom he was most proud; his sister, Jo Catherine Ford; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
