0bsequies of Minister Ida Ocreter Payne Scott Ida Ocreter Payne Scott was born August 15, 1918 to the union of Mark C. Payne and Ocreter Carter in Wellston, MO, the youngest of 10 children. Mother, father, six (6) brothers and three (3) sisters preceded her death. Ida attended Elmwood Park Elementary School and received a degree from Sumner High School and St. Louis School of Music. Julv 31,1935, Ida Ocreter Payne joined in holv matrimony to Hillard M. Scott, to this union there were two sons, Hillard 1.. Scott and Harry M. Scott. Her husband and son Harry preceded her death. Ida confessed a hope in Christ at the age of 13 at the Metropolitan AME Zion Church. She later joined the First Baptist Church of Elmwood Park, where she was member for sixty-eight (68) years. For many years she served as minister of music with love and faithfulness. She then labored long and hard as a helpmate and first lady to the First Baptist Church Pool of Bethesda In Wright City, MO, a church her husband, the late Rev. Hillard M. Scott, built and organized. Ida had a fulfilling career as the Director of Public Housing at the St Louis County Housing Authority from 1954 until she retired in 1993. Here she encouraged, inspired and changed the lives of many St. Louis citizens. Ida was a leader in the development of Elmwood Park Community, a mission she lived and breathed for decades. In June of 1985, she was the driving force in the re-development and dedication of the new Kings Park, a beautiful, cherished land, the community still enjoys today. In 2004 she authored and published a book titled "The History of Elmwood Park," highlighting the community's strength, commitment to family, and God. Ida lived a full and productive life as she served her God by serving her fellowmen in her church and community. She received the Women of Worth Award, the Edna M. Taylor Client Service Award for Outstanding Commitment for serving the indigent and disadvantage, The Community ..Ministry Award for her tire1ess work in the neighborhood. Her many honors, awards and memberships include: OWL's, Inc. (Older Women League); Concerned Citizen of Elmwood Park; Elder of First Baptist Church, Elmwood Park just to name a few. However, her most important accomplishment was being a child of the Most High King. She was ordained clergy by Rev. John E. Hubbard, Pastor, First Baptist Church of Elmwood Park, MO. On June 27, 2010 at 7:45 A.M. in her home in Elmwood Park, she heard the voice of Jesus say, "Come home Ida, join me in our mansion in the sky. I say to you my dear daughter, Well done my most good and faithful servant!."
