Robert then joined The First Missionary Baptist Church of Robertson under the leadership of his father, the Late Reverend Dr. Robert S. Johnson, Sr. Robert attended the University City Schools, namely Jackson Park Elementary, Hanley Junior High and University City Senior High graduating in 1974. To many of his classmates, Robert was "Boom-Boom" because of how hard he hit his opponents on the football field. Upon graduation, Robert joined the University City Police Department as a Cadet. In July 1976, Robert graduated from the St. Louis County Police Academy, and served as a dedicated officer with the University City Police Department until 1996. Robert met the love of his life, Doris Yvette, at University City Fire Department. At first sight, he said to her, "Will you marry me?" She would later say yes, but as a package deal with son Lamar.
