Ms. Pearla Scruggs (Shine) was born to Nancy Scruggs and James Scruggs in Gary, Indiana. In Pearla's early life, she lived in Gary, Indiana, Holly Springs, Mississippi, and Memphis, Tennessee, before the family relocated to St. Louis at the age of 14.13earla completed her high school diploma and received certificate training in Retail Management and Customer Service through the Job Corps. She had fond memories of her experience in the Job Corps as she traveled throughout the United States, developing professionally and connecting with people across the country.


To know Pearla was to know an authentic and loyaI advocate who lived by the values and morals she expected of others. As a loving friend and family member, she had a remarkable way of connecting, nurturing, and providing accountability. Her sense of humor was unmatched, and she would find such joy in the conversations and time she spent with loved ones. She never met a stranger as she had a way of building rapport and relationships with others.


Pearla was preceded in death by her mother (Nancy), father (James Sr.), siblings (James Jr.. Danny, and Sylvester), and her lifelong friend and husband, Leroy Shine. She is survived by her children Christopher Jenkins and Maya Scruggs flicks (Mikal); grandchildren, Madison, Mikal Jr., and Malcolm Hicks.; brother Jimmy Marshall (Linda); nieces and nephews (Cornell, Donyel, Elijah, Liz y, Jocelyn. Jimmy, Ashley, Dominic, Shaniece, Tasia, Trinity, and Starha, best friend Dorothy Williams, and a host of extended family members.
