Mattie Lee Kirksey

Life Reflection Mattie L. Kirksey was born in Moro, Arkansas on December 28, 1928 to Louis and Ophelia McDaniel.Her parents and two sisters preceded her in death, Dimple Norment (Sylvester) and Etta Mae Banks (Hardy Sr.). Mattie married William L. Kirksey in 1946 and moved to St. Louis, MO in 1952where they lived until death parted them in 1983. To this union, they had eight children. Preceding herin death were Dennis, Irmalinette, and Alvin (Linda). She leaves behind to honor her, Robert Sr., Shirley,Maurice, McLarince (Dana) and Yolanda Small (Jeremy). Mattie was a wonderful cook and loved tomanage the kitchen at one of St. Louis' most prominent high schools, Chaminade College Preparatory School, until retirement in 1989. Mattie's second career came from the love she had for taking care of people. She helped raise an entiregeneration of children alongside her many grandchildren. She loved to look good, and always said sheneeded to keep a little change on her to get her hair and nails done. Mattie loved her family and loved taking care of them. From this love she also raised two of her grandchildren who became like children to her, Sheeny Lewis (who preceded her in death) and Sheane Stokes (Sylvester). One of her greatest joys in her later years was hanging out, traveling and shopping. When speaking with Mattie she always had a story to tell in her special way... filled with love and life lessons, and she always kept it real. Mattie leaves behind to cherish her and carry on the Kirksey legacythree sons, two daughters, over twenty grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
