Marvell G. Smallwood was born on May 25, 1927 to George and Betty AndrewsSmallwood. he had three siblings, Lamar, Betty Ann, and Delores who allpreceded him in death. he was a lifelong resident of Kirkwood Missouri.Marvell served in the United States Army as a Staff Sargent in a QuartermasterUnit from 1952 to 1954. as a member of the U.S. Armed forces during the KoreanWar, he received the National Defense Service Medal. After concluding hismilitary service, he was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospitals-Jefferson Baracks in St. Louis County. he retired from Cochran VeteransAdministration Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri after a 38 year career.Marvell wa an avid sportsman. As a high school athlete he won many accolades and awards. He received a football scholarship. He also played baseball. Heloved to fish and was very creative in baiting fish. he loved to cook and was anexcellent cook and baker. He also relished eating fish. It was during a DouglasMemorial fish fry that he was hooked and received Christ as his Savior.Marvell was saved and faithfully served at Douglas Memorial COGIC, under theleadship of Pastor Leonard Scales and was later ordained. He along with PastorJames Hubbard and many others were instrumental in the saving of many souls.He also served at Brentwood Temple COGIC under the late Superintendent GrantPrice. After a time, he and Pastor james Barbee went to University City to begin aministry.He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Carolyn Howard-Smallwood, oneson Walter Edward (Cynthia), two fister childen Tracy and Stacy Clark onedaughter Tricia Smallwood and grand-daughter Amber Smallwood, Shemilya andDarnell, Heather, Eandra Clark, Chazz, Charles, and Keyaria Robbins, andadditional children Maria, Lisa, Flicia Elliot, Gordon and Howard.Interment:J.B.
