Life Reflections Marilyn Sandra (Whittaker) Booth lived a life of service, kindness, and genuine love. She allowed the love of Christ to move through her to all she encountered. To have known Marilyn was to experience her encouragement., listening ear, and contagious fun-loving spirit. Marilyn S. (Whittaker) Booth was born July 22, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri to the proud parents, Robert, Whittaker, Jr. and Mary Whittaker (McCullough) who preceded her in death Marilyn was one of four children to her mother Mary McCullough. Marilyn was raised in Meacham Park, Missouri. She was a dedicated student who loved learning and helping others. She was proud to be part of a cohort of students from Meacham who integrated the Kirkwood School. District and would reminisce aboutbeing the only Black student in many of her classes. She frequently talked abouthow hard she had to work as a student to "catch up" to her peers. der focus on excelling academically was reflected in the most improved student award. Because Marilyn knew the challenges of adolescence, this fortified her empathy forthe challenges facing the youngest in her family. She often served as a refugeand always welcomed young people. Marilyn attended Hickey College and became a stellar administrative assistant. She was frequently recognized for her error-free words per minute and shorthandskills. She started her professional career at Legal Aid working closely with attorneysand later joined Southwestern Bell. Later in her career, Marilyn accepted a positionwith the Normandy School District in which she would retire. In her spare time, she served as a de facto accountant during income tax season. Some of Marilyn's favorite pastimes included bowling, cooking, reading newspapers, playing Pokeno and Bid Whist, watching "her Cardinals, singing, and serving as Tracy's ghostwriter/editor. Marilyn was a very modest, yet enthusiastic, woman who loved life and sought little personal accolades. She chose to live vicariously through her family and friends and supported and celebrated their accomplishments. She was the extremely proud mother of her daughter Dr. Tracy Hinds and always looked forward to sharing her excitement. with family and friends. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy she could not end a Conversation without mentioning a "newsworthy" detail about them. Marilyn was a loving person who had a big heart.. She helped raise her nephews Ruben and Sylvester and adopted Jasmine Towns (niece) and Asmon Morrow (nephew), children of her sister Marianne Morrow (deceased). Marilyn lovingly cared for Jasmine and Asmon from an early age into their adulthood. Marilyn knew the importance of fellowship and could often be found worshiping Christ. She was a dedicated member of Unity United Methodist Church. She loved singing for theLord and was active in the church choir, as well as the Black Methodists for Church Renewal choir. She also served on various church committees including the United MethodistWomen's Auxiliary and Pastor Parish Committee. Marilyn continued to remain active until her health declined. Marilyn positively impacted everyone she encountered and her zest for life wasinfectious. Her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren who gave her joy. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Dr. Tracy Hinds (Ahmad),Jasmine Towns, and Asmon Morrow. Her dear companion Garvey Lenoir, beloved sisterPatricia McGhee, and brothers Robert Whittaker, III (Allison), Michael Whittaker (Sylvia),and Kenneth Whittaker (Sheri), eleven grandchildren-- Ahmad Jr., Mekel, Arianne,Arionna, Anal, Asmon Jr., Myles, Gabriella, Destinee, Julian, and Charlie, a host of nieces,nephews, cousins, friends, church family, and her dearest friends Dottie Brown and Sheryl' Smith.
