Life's Reflections Marcella Mae Higginswas born September 2, 1947 to Walter A. and Lula Josephine Jones in Guthrie, OK. Her parents, step-father, Joseph Mason and her beloved brother, Lloyd R. Jones preceded her in death. Marcella was educated in the Gutherie Public Schools. She attended Page Elementary School and Faver High School whereshe graduated in 1964. She was the Valedictorian of her high school class as was a member of the National Honor Society. Shereceived her B.A. in elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from Langston University in 1968. She was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She received her Master's in Education from National Louis Universitywhere she also graduated Magna Cum laude. After graduating college she was recruited by St. Louis Public Schools to teach at Peabody Elementary School where she taughtfor 32 years retiring in 2000. She touched the lives of many children. As she went about her daily activities she would often encountermany of her former students who were always eager to serve her, either as her Call-A-Ride driver, nurse, restauarant server, etc. which always brought such joy to her. She was united in holy matrimony to Aaron Higgins as to this union 2 children were born. Marcella was a member of Church of the Living God (C.W.F.F.). She served as the Y.P.P.U. (Young People's Progressive Union) sponsor for 20+ years. She loved working with the youth and took great pleasure in planning activities and traveling with them to the various conventions. She was stern but they knew she loved them. She also taught Sunday school for a number of years. She was a charter member of Church of the Living god, Temple of Faith. She loved her church and her pastor. She had a strong faith in God and never let her physical ailments stop her from serving God. She served as a Greeter giving that winning smile as the people entered the Sanctuary. Marcella made her transition from this life on Friday, March 11th at the West County Care Center. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, one Son, Adrian K. Mason of St. Louis, MO; two daughters, Anedra K. Higgins of St. Louis, MO and Shaundra L. Higgins of Tucon, AZ; one granddaughter, Tammie Moore of St. Louis, MO; two grandsons, Antoine J. Higgins of St. Louis, MO and Shaun L. Higgins of Tucson, AZ; four sisters, Pearlene Adams of Guthrie, OK, Emma Bonner of Altadena, CA, Evelyn (Leodis) Fields of St. Louis, MO and Faye (Norman) Stewart of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister-in-law, Vivian Jones of Blytheville, AR; two lifetime friends Mae Pounds and Beverly Jefferson of St. Louis, MO and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Interment:Lake Charles Cemetery7775 St. Charles Rock RoadSt. Louis, MO 63114 .
