Reflections Mae Evelyn Weaver-Grant was the first child born to Napoleon B. Weaver and Frankie Mae Mack Weaver on January 22, 1938 in Waco, Texas. Preceding her in death were her parents and grandson, Daquan Wilson-Jefferson. At the early age of six, Mae confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the Toliver Chapel M.B. Church under the Pastorate of Rev. O.L. Hegmon. It was shortly after this, at age seven, that her parents saw the musical piano talent God had placed on her life. She played "by ear" while Barbara Jean sang for services at the VA Hospital where their father served as chaplain. This gift grew in the anointing of God for many years. During her teen years she was the church musician at her father's church, Good Samaritan M.B. Church, Waco, Texas. This was her first paid position of $5.00 per month and Mae was very proud to be able to purchase her "teenage fashioned" makeup and perfume. She continued to worship, praise, and share her talent for a sixty-five year span in Texas and St. Louis. Mae was Minister of Music at several churches in- St. Louis, Missouri including Mt. Gideon M.B. Church, Unity Methodist Church, Mount Joy M.B. Church, Monumental M.B. Church, Union Memorial United Methodist and North Park United Methodist Church. She later united with San Francisco Temple Complex Christian Assembly under the pastorate of Bishop Dwight H. McDaniels, Jr. Mae received her primary and secondary education in Waco, Texas and graduated from A.J. Moore High School. Her sister, Barbara Jean influenced her to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. She attended and graduated from Paul Quinn College, Waco, Texas and received her Bachelor's degree. Her student teaching experience was completed at Harris-Stowe College, St. Louis, Missouri. Mae's first teaching experience was in the Kinloch School District where she taught first grade. Mae was adventurous, and on a whimsical suggestion, transferred to East St. Louis School District 189. She retired after thirty-one years; However, her love for children continued as she became a volunteer for over a year with CASA, a Count Appointed Special Advocates Group for Children. Mae was a member of the Top Ladies of Distinction, St. Louis Chapter and served as Area III Music Chairman. Mae had many passions that she explored after retiring. She loved golfing, bowling, exercising, traveling, and visiting the nursing home. She departed this earthly life on Tuesday, August 24,2010 in St.Louis, MO.
