Luther Lee Fortune, Sr

Life Reflection Luther L. Fortune, Sr. was born February 9, 1929 in Brentwood, MO to the late Mr. Jesseand Mrs. Arnett Fortune. Luther was the second of four children. His brother, Rev. Walter fortune, sisters, Addle and Mamie and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Fortune, niece, Ann Gamble, grandchildren,Brandi and Brandon Berry preceded him in death. Luther received his education at St. Joseph Catholic School in Kinloch, MO. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war as an aircraft technician. After his discharge he learned to fly airplanes, one of his dreams. He had many hobbies in his lifetime. Luther married Edith M. Howard on July 3, 1953 and to this union three children were born, Lee, Glenda and Michael. Luther was a business owner, hauling and dry cleaning with his late brother. He also drove his own semi truck for several companies and ran his own janitorial business for many years. In the early 70's Luther joined the First Baptist Church of Creve Coeur under the leadership ofthe late Rev. Frank James and Rev. Dr. James Lacy. Luther served as a trustee. He knew the Lord and enjoyed attending church. He was liked by all who knew him. Luther departed this life on November 4, 2021 in the early a.m. at NHC Care Center in Maryland Heights, MO. To cherish his memory he leaves three children, Lee (Vicki), Glenda Jones Atkins (Michael) and Michael (Michelle); nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild,niece Jeanette Franklin (Calf); cousins, Jimmy fortune, Cookie Fortune; Miss Virginia Hawkins,Ms. Norma Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends Interment:Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery2900 Sheridan AveSt. Louis, MO 63126 .
