Life ReflectionsLula C. Gilkey-Spiller was born February 19, 1927 inMacon, Mississippi to the late Samuel Andrew Gilkey, Sr. and the late Mollie Stewart Gilkey. Lula was the youngest ofeight children from the marriage.Lula was preceded in death by her parents, four brothersand three sisters.She attended the Noxubee Industrial School in Mcleod,Mississippi. She attended the New Zion Baptist Church inMcLeod, Mississippi. She was united in holy matrimony toEdward Spiller, Sr. on September 4, 1946. They relocatedto St. Louis, Missouri in 1948. To this union they wereblessed with four children, Mary (deceased), Theresa,Karen and Edward, Jr.In the late fifties, Lula accepted Christ as her Savior andjoined Unity Baptist Church in Kirkwood, Missouri and wasbaptized under the late Reverend Early D. Johnson.Lula was a faitful choir member and deaconess for over50 years until her illness claimed her service.Lula enjoyed baking desserts, her favorites, peach cobbler,sweet potato pie, and 5 flavor pound cake. She shared hergift of hospitality without reserve. She had a passion forgardening her flowers. She had a desire to learn to swimand was successful. She later took her grandchildren andtaught them to swim.Lula leaves fond memories in the hearts of: her busband, Edward Spiller, Sr.; two daughters, Theresa (Wayne) Spiller-Harvey and Karen Spiller; son, Edward (Cynthia) Spiller, Jr.,all f St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren; two sisters-in-law,Irene Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri and Marion Powell ofChicago, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Bill Spiller of St. Louis,Missouri; and a host of nieces and nephews, great niecesand nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, great=great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.Interment:Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery2600 SheridanSt. Louis, Missouri 63126 .
