Celebration of Life For Lisa Renee Manns Lisa Renee Manns was born to John and Clara Manns on June 2, 1966 in St . Louis , Mis souri , two years after the birth of her only sibling, John Jr. She was educated at Ladue High School and Washington University, where she studied industrial and organization psychology. Lisa left her senior year after acceptance into the Times-Mirror Minority Editorial Training Program in New York . She completed the two-year program and began a journalism career as a copy editor at New York Newsday. She was among a team of journalists at the newspaper who were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for spot news reporting. She later was hired by the Detroit Free Press, where she was described as "engaged and engaging, working at a high level with strong interpersonal skills and a desire to make an impact in the community and at the newspaper . " She managed reporters and columnists and was responsible for directing coverage of the Detroit mayoral election and the criminal justice system in Detroit and Wayne County . She also led the newspaper's Oakland Bureau, where she directed coverage of suburban and regional issues. Her career continued at the Chicago Tribune and the St . Louis Post-Dispatch. Lisa dedicated her life to Christ at age 13, at Olive Chapel A.M.E. church in Kirkwood , Missouri . She later worshipped at Wayman A.M.E. in St . Louis . Her faith, loving family and supportive friends lifted her in challenging times. Her only child, Camille Marie Manns, died in March 2005 from a heart defect, diagnosed in Lisa's third month of pregnancy. Camille was 11 days old. Weeks later, at 38, Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was in remission for seven months before the cancer spread to her liver, neck, lungs and bones, requiring several surgeries and weekly chemotherapy. Lisa relocated to Dallas , Texas in 2010 to be near family. She worked at North Lake Community College while continuing her weekly chemo sessions. Lisa remained passionate about reading, traveling and volunteer work . Lisa leaves behind many family members and friends to cherish her memory and mourn her death. Among them are her parents, John and Clara Manns; brother, John; sister-in-law, Veronica; niece, Natalie (Donnie) Posas; and nephews, David, John III, and Michael; all of Dallas . "My life's journey has been beautiful . God blessed me with Daddy, Mommy and John, who taught me about unconditional love, strength and respect . I've been fortunate having a wonderful extended family and amazing friends who've encouraged me, laughed and cried with me. I saw the impossible become possible when I held my child in my arms.
