Life Reflections of Leroy Works (Buckwheat) Leroy was born February 10, 1925 in Turrell, Arkansas to the late Sam and Ella Gram Works. One brother, McKinley and sister, Elnora Allen preceded him in death. Nis family moved to St. Louis, Missouri when he was young. l1e received an education in the Webster Groves School District. In 1943, Mary 15, he enlisted in the United States Army where he was honoraply discharged. Leroy accepted Christ in his life and joined the Old Community Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend William Catlin. Leroy was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Melba Marshall. To this union no children were born. He worked for the Frisco Railroad until his retirement. Leroy was an inspiration to those who knew him although he lost his arm at Scull en Steel, he learned to take care of himself, he drove a car, picked yp cans and metal he could sell, he also had a paper route. l1e never gave up until his health began to fail. Leroy departed his life at Parkwood Skilled Nursing &. Rehabilitation Center ~t 10: 15 p.m. March 4,2010. l1e leaves to cherish his memory: two brothers, Reverend George (Alice) Works, and Edward (Betty) Works; his two sisters, Margaret Works and Virtie Rucker; and a very dear friend, Bessie Nicholes; he also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Interment -Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery .
