Leon Bernard Whitner was born July 11, 1950 to Hugo and Marion Whitner in St. Louis County, Missouri. His father and one brother, Herbert preceded him in death. At an early age, Leon confessed a belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond Heights, Missouri by Rev. James E. Fiddmont. During his time at the church, he was an usher. Leon was educated in St. Louis County schools. He received his diploma on June 6, 1968 from- Webster Groves High School. He furthered his education at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park and Central Missouri State University. He received his Law Enforcement Officer Certification on February 21, 1975. Following in the footsteps of his brother Herbert, his journey in law enforcement began as a police officer and later as a sergeant with the City of Rock Hill. Later in life, Leon joined the Missouri Teamsters Union as an overthe-road truck driver. Leon enjoyed traveling, drag racing, and spending time with his family. He was loved, respected and admired by all who. knew him. He was a caring and loving son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, loyal friend and neighbor. Leon was called home to live life eternally on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis County, Missouri. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Marion Whitner; daughter, Lakeysha Shortridge; Godson, William "Billy" lnge, Jr. (Rae Ann); two brothers, Emerson Sutton, Sr. and Jerry Whitner; five grandchildren, Dionte Shields, Karla Burgett, Isaiah lnge, Keara lnge, Raya lnge; long time friend, Peggy Terrell; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends and acquaintances. .
