Laurence Chambers

Life Reflections Laurence Chambers was born May 21, 1946 to the late Tommie and Betty Chambers in Kirkwood,Missouri, where he resided most of his life. Laurence accepted Christ at an early age at St. Matthew C.M.E. Church where he remained a memberand active participant throughout his life. He found comfort in sharing his love of music with others and became a dynamic member of the male and mass choirs at the church. He later went on to become thefounder and President of Master's Choice all-male singing group. Laurence organized the "Unity in the Community" and the "Gospel Jubilee", both of which have become annual events. Laurence (known to many of his friends as "Larry") graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1965where he was a leader on the field with his play in basketball, football and baseball. he had a lifelong loveaffair with sports of all types, which he fueled as a player, coach, umpire and referee. Including playinga number of years for the St. Louis Tandy Semi-Pro Baseball League. He strived to pass this enthusiasm along to young people by encouraging and supporting his children's involvement in sports and leading anannual pilgrimage to see the Cardinals play at Busch Stadium. Laurence consistently showed his leadership abilities which he demonstrated faithfully during his tenureas Lay Leader at St. Matthew, worship leader, steward and Second Vice President of the St. Louis DistrictLay Ministry of the C.M.E. Church. Professionally, Laurence was a dedicated employee having worked for Star manufacturing for 25 yearsand MEMC Electronics for 17 years. At Star manufacturing he served as Shop Steward and Union Represent-ative, as he strived to ensure that he and his fellow employees received fair and equal treatment. Laurence yielded to God's call Home and departed this life on march 23, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommie and Betty Chambers; his son, Maurice; brothers,Udell, William and Gerald. Laurence leaves to cherish many warm memories: his loving children, Troy (Jeneen), Jeffrey and Tanisha; siblings, Mardell (Wally), Charles (Hattie), Jesephine and sister-in-law, Sandra; grand-children, Troy, II, Malik, JaCara, Markeyse, Rafi, Jinnah and Gregory; one great-grandson, JaCory; former wifeAnna Ruth with whom he had three children; and his special friend, Janet Ivory; and a host of nieces, nephews,cousins, and other family and friends.Interment:Memorial Park Cemetery and Crematory5200 Lucas Hunt RoadSt. Louis, MO 63121 .
