Life Reflection
Laura Rosetta Dickson was born on August 14, 1927. The youngest girl of eleven children born to Arthur and Mae Dickson. To her family, she was known as "Ninee" and grew up in Frontenac, MO. She attended the only black school, Attucks Elementary in Clayton, MO. On June 18, 1949, in St. Charles, A40, she married Raamah Eugene Thompson. They initially settled in Robertson, MO, and to that union, five children were born. In later years, they relocated to Webster Groves.
She was an active member of Parks Chapel AME Church. Known throughout the neighborhood as Queen of Webster Groves, she was adored by her community. She would often spend time visiting the sick and helping wherever she was able. Laura enjoyed baking and was known for her wonderful cakes and delicious rolls, which she proudly sold from home with a line out the door during the holidays!
A few years after the passing of Gene, a marriage of 60 years, Laura eventually moved to CA where she stayed for short periods of time with Jacqueline and Reg in Southern CA and moved to Modesto, CA to live with her daughter Phyllis. She continued to visit St. Louis annually. She was blessed to be able to visit with her children, grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren. Leaving behind a legacy of five generations who celebrated and loved her whenever the opportunity presented itself.
Laura transitioned peacefully on July 11, 2023, at the young age of 95 years old. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: daughters, Jacqueline, Regina, Phyllis; son, Reg; two sons-in-law, Arthur and James; five-granddaughters, two grandsons, two great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, one great-great-grandson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, who many considered Laura as a surrogate mother. Our humble apologies if we missed mentioning anyone, know that You are Loved.
Laura was preceded in death and welcomed home by her beloved Ma-Mae, husband Raamah E. Thompson; her daughter Stephanie "Honey" Thompson; grandson Raamah "Rao" Thompson, II; siblings: Katherine, Marshall, Lewis "Tuni" Joseph, Rachel, Harold "Ham", Dylan, Daniel, Bert and Ben.
