Life Reflections John William Coburn, Jr. was born February 7, 1928 to the union of Elroachie Rodgers Shobey and John William Coburn, Sr. ~both preceded him in death. John was the eldest of two children. He was baptized into the fellowship of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. John was raised and educated in St. Louis, MO where he graduated from Sumner High School. He furthered his education by graduating with an Associates Degree in Engineering from Forest Park Community College in 1972. From 1945 - 1948, John was a member of the United States Navy earning a Victory Medal and an Asiatic Pacific Medal. From 1950 - 1953 John was a member of the United States Marine Corp. where he served in the Korean War. On March 31, 1957, John married Shirley Ann Thomas. To this union five children were born. He was employed by the United States Postal Service for more than 30 years. He leaves to cherish his memory: five children, Linda (William) Cope of Seattle, WAr John (Kerri) Coburn of St. Louis, MO, Janice (Enoch "Skip") White of Columbus, OH, Eddie Coburn of Puyallup, WA and Elizabeth Singleton of St. Louis, MO; a sister, Dr. Barbara Coburn Lyles ("Pep"); 17 grandchildren, 6 nieces, 1 nephew, a brother-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends Interment: Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery 2900 Sheridan St. Louis, MO 63126 .
