Jimmy Lee Hunter

March 24, 1924 — May 18, 2010

Jimmy L. Hunter was born in Friars Point, MS to Robert and Easter Hunter on March 23, 1924. He was the fourth of nine children. He is a graduate of St. Louis Public Schools and he attended a trade school where he learned tailoring and pholstery. In 1943, Jimmy was inducted into the United States Army. He served in the Army for two years. During his tour of duty, he was stationed in Europe. He received the following decorations: European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the World War II Service Lapel Button, Four Overseas Bars, and the Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar. During his 55 years marriage to Claudine, who died in July of 2006, they created a home that radiated warmth and welcome. Together they shared a love that was enduring. They were seldom seen apart, and participated in many activities together. Avid sports fans they attended many games at Busch Stadium where they were season ticket holders. Both were also members of the Present Day Gun and Rod Club of Godfrey, IL. Jimmy won numerous championship trophies for marksmanship. To this union no children were born: However, they took many under their wing. Jimmy worked briefly for the United State Postal Service and later retired from the Veterans Administration where he worked faithfully for several years. He always believed in going to work and being there on time. Jimmy was a devoted and committed leader in the church. As a member of Third Presbyterian for nearly 60 years, he served devotedly in numerous capacities.Jimmy Hunter was a strong and independent person who was loved by many and will be greatly missed.He departed this life on May 18, 2010. He leaves to cherish his memory; a sister, Monetha Hunter of St. Louis, MO; four sisters-in-law, several godchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, Robert and Fannye Houston, and his adopted families: the Neals, the Whites and Irene Brown. - Interment - Jefferson Barracks Cemetery St. Louis, Missouri .
