Listen to Obituary

Ida M. Hurst was born on September 20, 1935 in Wrightsville, Georgia to the union of Isiah and Eunice Hurst. She was the second born of four children. Her parents, one sister (Emma Hurst) and one brother (John W. Hurst) preceded her in death.

Ida known as "Skeeta" and she was Educated at Doc Kemp School in Georgia. She professed her hope in Christ at an early age. The family later migrated to St. Louis, Missouri. She joined First Baptist Church Of Meacham Park under the leadership of Rev. George Sebree. At this church, she gave faithful service as part of the Kitchen Committee for many years.

Ida also gave many years of faithful service to Kirkwood School District. After retirement, she assumed the role of a caregiver for her mother. She did so until her mother passed. She also gave over 29 years of loving service to the Berdy Family.

She was known for showing love through her cooking. She often shared with family and friends. Her eyes would light up when compliments poured in about her delicious meals. She also enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. She loved to sit on her porch and enjoyed trips to WalMart.

Ida leaves many to mourn her passing but cherish her memories. Among those include one brother (William "Slim" Hurst), four nieces (Carolyn Robinson of Dublin, GA, Teresa Folks-Parker, May Ann Johnson, and Jennifer Runnels), eight nephews (David Johnson married to Vivian, Edward Runnels (Cheryl), John Runnels (Emma), Jeff Runnels, Damon Runnels, Terrance Runnels, Lee Hurst, and Mel Hurst), and a host of cousins and friends.
