ObituaryHelen Elizabeth Madison was born August 29, 1921. She departed this life on Monday, November 7th at the age of 95 years old. She was the only child of Clifford Madison and Helen E. Stewart-Owens who preceded her in death: including her sons, Charles M. and William F. Lawrence. At the age of 12, she accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Forrest City, Arkansas. She served as a faithful musician in many St. Louis churches, and was well known and respected. In the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc., she served as Musician Emeritus, also the Gospel Core Union of St. Louis; she was a member of the Queen Esther Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.Helen graduated from Sumner High School, matriculated in earning a Doctorate of Music through the United Theological Seminary. Later she pursued higher education at St. Louis Community College, Meramec where she was recognized as valedictorian in the music curriculum. Helen married Charles D. Lawrence and to this union seven children were born: Charles, Karen (Mickey), William, Vinson, Patricia (Pat), Wayne, and Cheryl (Cherry). Years later Helen met Richard Davis, and two daughters were born, Rosslyn and Renita. Helen was employed as a St. Louis County Neighborhood Coordinator with the County Older Resident Program for 50+ years and retired September, 2012. During her years of employment she received many awards. Helen was a well-known chef in the St. Louis area for many years. Working for Bistro New Orleans and The Pit of the Seventh Olive she wrote a weekly food article for the St Louis Post Dispatch. She loved cooking from scratch, games, playing various musical instruments, teaching music and traveling. Most of all, driving her car and being independent!!! Helen truly lived a full enriched life in Christ, with family, for others, and "she would feed anybody especially the poor"!!!! Helen leaves to cherish five daughters, two sons, two sons-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
