Harry Lee Sawyer

Life Reflections Harry Lee Sawyer, Sr.: "Big Harry", son of late Albert Evans and Willie Mae Sawyer, whopreceded him in death. was born on June 15, 1948 and has since gone on to be with our Lordin Heaven on June 15, 2019, his birthday. Harry, born in Friars Point, Mississippi, at an early age, he joined the 1st Baptist Church there. In his teenage years, he was an outstanding basketball player and also excelled in band, playing the Tuba, receiving scholarship in both at Coahoma Community College. He was later drafted in the service by the United States Army, stationed in Germany, where he served honorably for two years. Upon returning, he was offered a scholarship at Alabama University for both basketball and band, but declined in order to be with his family and to raise his children. Both music and sports remained his favorite pastime. Harry was joined in holy matrimony to Alma J. Washington and from this union, they bore five children. Although the matrimony ended in divorce, they went on to become great friends, still with genuine LOVE for one another. He never remarried. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children - Harry Sawyer, Jr., Debra Sawyer, Freddie Sawyer (Marla), Joseph Sawyer (Anne) and Christopher Sawyer; his brother's - Joseph Sawyer and Douglass Swatson; sisters - Pamela Swatson, Pearletha Swatson and Deborah Swatson: also a host of grand- children, great grandchildren and many friends.
