Life Reflections Harold Raymond Garner Jr was born on July 20, 1929 through the marital unionof Julia (Julie) Lee Holloway Garner and Harold Raymond Garner Sr. Harold Garner Jr. was the second oldest of the thirteen children his parents conceived. Because of his birthorder, he was not only a brother but also a father figure to some of his siblings. Early in his life Harold worked alongside his brothers and father in delivering coal to houses.He pursued his education as far as high school before leaving to start work. In his career Harold picked up several trades such as plumbing and construction. He was amember of Laborers Union 110. In his youth he worked on a steamboat that went as far as Louisiana. Upon being drafted by the military he spent his years in service as a cook. However,Harold will be most remembered for being a living street guide. Through the routes he garnered in his 14-year career at Straub's and time in construction, the fabric of St. Louisstreets was woven in him. Woven within him was also the Elmwood community. It was through the friendships herethat he met Georgia McGee, who would later become his wife. On March 11, 1962 the two were married. Georgia, from a previous marriage had a son,Marshall Barnett, who Harold accepted as his own. Through their union they were blessed withCharles Raymond Gamer, Diane Denise Garner, and Steven Harold Garner. There was one child,Cornell Gamer, that did not survive infancy. It was a difficult loss for both Harold and Georgia. Harold enjoyed life and being in good company; often sharing his knowledge of plumbing,construction, cooking, and the streets of St. Louis. He was a fiercely independent man thatserved as a father figure for multiple generations. To receive him in his homegoing are his wife and son, his parents, and siblings - Juanita, Harry,Roland, Vera, Shirley, Donald and Norma. To remember him, Harold leaves behind his surviving siblings - Veda, Nancy, Thomas, Evelyn,and June; his children - Marshall, Charles, Diane and Steve; his grand-children - Antoine, Necie,Dayadre, Denise, Kelvin, Jessica, Daneisha, Lil Steve, and Stefni; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
