Gus Lee Byrd, Sr

Life Reflections Gus Lee Byrd, Sr. was born May 21, 1951 to Ada B. Culver and Spencer Byrd. He was the fifth of nine children. His parents, grandparents, brothers (Jimmie L. Byrd and Robert L. Byrd) preceded him in death. He received his education in the Bell City R-4 School System. He loved basketball and would be game for a pick-up game at anytime. In 1972 he volunteered to serve his country. He served in the U.S. Army from 1972-1974. After completing his tour, he worked for Chrysler Corporation until his retirement. In 1980 he was moved to Newark, DE with Chrysler Corporation. Later in that year he married Rochelle James. To this union were four children: Shelby Gardner of Las Vegas, NV, Gus, Jr., Katie Marie (John) and Crystal Nicole Byrd all of St. Louis, MO. Later he married Hilda L. Lively, together they had three daughters. (Tanganyika who preceded him in death), Geraldine Lively-Riley and Halika Lively. Left to cherish his memory: wife, Hilda Byrd; his siblings, Annrell (Jesse - deceased) Benson, Christella (Waymon, Jr.) Benson, Beverely G. Byrd, Bernard (Virginia) Byrd, Sol N. Byrd and Addie Byrd. Sisters-in-law, Barbara (Robert L. -deceased) Byrd, and Gina Byrd; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. When they ask, how your story ended. Because folks rarely care about beginnings I will say the joy in your smile healed more hearts than it ever broke When they ask has all been forgiven we will say amends were made, hugs were given, and no Love was Lost. We will say you fought your fight the best you knew how. God's Predestined Journey for you has ended but your legacy will continue on, with more Love, and more Light.
