Remembering Gus:

Mr. Gus Lee Byrd, Jr. was born on November 23, 1980, to Gus Lee Byrd, Sr. and Hallie Rochelle Burris-Byrd, in Wilmington, Delaware. Gus started his education in the Delaware School district before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, where he graduated from the Riverview Gardens School district.

Throughout his career Gus worked in assembly, furniture finishing, furniture moving, and driving a forklift. He enjoyed his work and took pride in doing his jobs. H was also very intuitive. Just give him a project and an instruction manual, and he could fix just about anything. Though mostly, he liked working with his sons, encouraging them to be self-sufficient, and to believe in themselves.

Gus, or “Gusto”, as his friends called him, liked traveling, fishing, camping, movies, and cooking. But mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved going to everyone’s events, whether it was for a child or an adult; he was there to celebrate the occasion with his humor and laughter. And when “Gusto” manned the grill, you were really in for something special.

On September 22, 2011, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Shavonne. To this union, one son, Gus, III, was born. Gus was a devoted family man. He was a dedicated father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and godfather, who put his whole heart into every role. Gus walked to the beat of his own drum. He could be a little stubborn, but he also cared about others. If he could help you in any way, he would. His kindred spirit left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know him. Gus was preceded I death y his father, Gus Le Byrd, Sr., his grandparents, Spencer and Ada Byrd and Isaac and Agnes Williams, and step brother Joseph Barber. His life and memories will be cherished by: his wife – Shavonne; his sons – Dylan Bogan, Gus Lee Byrd, III; daughter-in-love – Tamesha Ivory; his loving mom – Hallie Jaes; his close buddy who was also his stepfather – Joe Jams; his brother – Shelby Garner (Debra); sisters – Katie Byrd (John) and Crystal Byrd; his stepbrother – Jarvis Jas; his cherished nieces and nephews- Kiara Cordes, Derrick Lowery, Taylor Simmons, David Jones, Camden Byrd, Johaan Barber, and Dart Barber; he’ll also b remembered and missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors.

He will be truly missed!
