Life's Reflections The Home Going for Grace Fiddmont Davis Gill Saturday, April 19, 2008 Grace Darling Fiddmont Davis Gill was born on January 27, 1933 at her parents' (the late Reverend James E. Fiddmont and Lucy Fiddmont) home in Richmond tleights, MO. Grace shared her parents' home with eleven other brothers and sisters which included: *JW Fiddmont, *Laverne Fiddmont, *Robert Fiddmont, * Vera Fiddmont, *Nina Fiddmont, * Jimmy Fiddmont, Freddie Fiddmont, HarIan Fiddmont, Doris Fiddmont, * Charles Fiddmont, and Norman Fiddmont (*deceased). She attended Old Lincoln Elementary School and New Lincoln School in Richmond Heights, MO from the 4th to the 8th grade. She attended Douglass tligh School in Webster Groves, MO and graduated in 1951. After high school, Dr. Thomas Rusan encouraged her to enroll in the nursing program at the St. Mary's Infirmary for the Colored and she graduated in 1954. After graduation, she worked as a Registered Nurse at the St. Louis County Hospital until 1956. She married George C. Davis, III in 1956 and moved to Arizona where he was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. From this union two children were born. Denise Lynn Davis was born in Arizona on June 30, 1957. The Davis family left Arizona in 1957 and Grace joined her husband in Germany in February, 1958. The Davis family lived in Germany for approximately 2 years. David Charles Davis (son) was born in Germany on January 30, 1959. Grace and her family returned to the United States in late 1959 and returned to work at St. Louis County Hospital on a part time basis. In 1962, Grace was employed by the Head Start Program and worked there approximately 2 years. In 1965, Grace was hired by the Kirkwood School District where she remained until 1968. Grace was hired by the St. Louis Community College, Meramec Campus as the school nurse and continued her work at Meramec for over 24 years. In 1980, Grace married Willie Gill and moved to San Jose, California. She lived in San Jose for approximately two years and returned to Kirkwood, MO in 1982. Grace returned to her position at Meramec Community College and retired in 1995. While retired, she was a consistent mentor and major influence on her grandchildren, Marques Alexander Davis, Natalie Grace Davis and Aviva Ruth Davis. She has also been a major influence and a source of true inspiration to countless friends, family members, colleagues and peers. Grace was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Richmond Meights, M0 until 1985 and then joined the Union Baptist Church, Chesterfield, MO where she was a member of the Choir, taught Sunday School and coordinated fellowship dinners. She was also a member of the Gospel singing group, "The Fiddmont Singers" for over 30 years. She was an active member of the St. Mary's Nursing School Alumni Association. Grace is survived and will be greatly missed by her brothers, Marian Fiddmont (Fannie), Norman f'iddmont (Marilyn), Fred Fiddmont (Dorothy); 5ister, Doris Frazier (Clifford); children, Denise Davis, and David Davis (Laraine); grandchildren, Natalie Davis (Brandon), Marques Alexander Davis, Aviva Davis and the rest of her nieces, nephews, and beloved friend, David Still. A special thanks to her longtime friends and relatives who generously and lovingly sacrificed their time to care for Grace as her illness progressed. As she told us the day before she passed on, ''I'm going home". Thank you all for your prayers and support!
