Life Reflections: George Maurice Simms was born to Wardie and Helen (Berry) Simms on May 27, 1945. He was the second oldest child. George attended Berkeley Senior High where he graduated in May 1964. George played football during high school with the Berkeley Bulldog team. In August of 1965, he met his wife Lovie Jean (Wright) Simms. They got married on August 13, 1966. He was married for 53 years until his death. He had four children, the oldest AnthonyD. Simms, Ailisa D. (Barber) Simms, Denisetrice S. (Simms) Bell, and Cindy J. (Simms) West. George started to work at Moog Automotive in his late teens. His father Wardie Simms help himget a mentorship job through the summer at Moog Automotive. After graduation, he began to work full time until his retirement at age 54 years old. George worked for over 30 years at Moog Automotive. Through this period he started his own construction company S & W Construction, along with business partner Michael Williams. George later took over the company to become Sole-Proprietor of S & W Construction until his death. In the mid 80's, George's company S & W Construction sponsored an all-women's softball team for several years. From 1998 to 2017, George had co-founded and sat on the board of directors of St. Joseph Center which sponsored the Eagle Nest a non-profit organization for homeless veterans. He donated time, money and resources to the program. He was the Head Director of the groundkeepers for the St. Joseph Center. Georges favorite past time was traveling. He always looked forward to taking family trips throughoutthe United States & Canada. His favorite destinations included trips to Walt Disney World, Colorado, Mackinac Island and Vancouver, Canada. George's passion was building things and gardening. George was proceeded in death by his parents, his siblings Lorraine (Simms) Cain, Saundress(Simms) Manning, Larry Simms, Dennis Simms, and Patricia (Simms) Knox. He leaves behindhis wife Lovie Jean Simms and his children (Anthony, Ailisa, Denisetrice, and Cindy) along withhis two son-- in- laws Michael Bell and Jason West and his daughter-in-law Leah (Harris) Simms. George had two grandson sons Jaryn Christopher Sydney Simms Logan West. He leaves behind several nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
