Life ReflectionsMrs. Evelyn (Lean) Porter was born on July 2, 1936, to Mattie and Claude Pierce in Summerville, TN. She was the 5th of six children. Preceding her in death were her parents and 2 sisters, Doris Anderson and Birdie Jean Taylor, one brother, Melvin Fierce, and her best friend, Thelma Diaz. Evelyn attended school in Summerville, Tennessee. Evelyn married James A. Porter and to that union in 1964, one child, Yvette V. Porter was born. Evelyn acquired 5 stepchildren, Iola, Berry, Clyde, Brenda and Ann of Memphis, Tennessee. She was a faithful member of Nazarene Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Andrew Boyce; and later Pastor Corey Ellis. Evelyn enjoyed going to garage sales with her best friend, Thelma. She was great in her community, and loved to have bake sales. She was famous for her fried apple pies. Evelyn's proudest moments were spent with her grandchildren, Erica and Fredrick and their children. Evelyn shared a special bond with each of them. Evelyn leaves to cherish memories: her daughter, Yvette V. Porter of St. Louis, MO; one granddaughter, Erica Caruthers of St. Louis, MO; one special grandson, Fredrick Caruthers of St. Louis, MO; 3 great-grandchildren Zyrin, Zaydin, Zallya of St. Louis, NO; 2 god daughters, Tiffany West-Walls and Doris Dixon-Thompson of St. Louis, MO; 2 sisters, Lorene Grandberry of St. Louis, MO and Dorothy (Harold) Howell of Summerville, TN; 5 stepchildren, Ann, Iola, Berry, Clyde and Brenda of Memphis, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.
