Life Reflections of Elma Mosley Webb Elma Lee Bertha Mosley Webb was the daughter of the late Ellis A. Mosley and Fannie Clayton ~ ~ Mosley of Lauderdale and Kemper Springs, Mississippi. She was the sixth child, born to the family on February 12, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri, delivered by a midwife, Ida Diamond. Four siblings, Jane, Janie, James and Etoir Mosley preceded her in death. Elma grew up in Meacham Park. She was united in holy matrimony to James Webb on June 22, 1956, in Kirkwood, Missouri by the late Rev. A. G. Drane, Pastor of the Kirkwood Church of God. Her husband passed away on August 20, 1981. Elma was blessed with three children, Gloria Marlene Mosley Parker, Kem Gerard Mosley and Maurice Elgin Webb. Her youngest son, Maurice and one grandchild, Karla Parker preceded her in death. Elma loved her family and taught her offspring the importance of family. She loved to attend both the Mosley and the Clayton Family Reunions. She traveled often taking her children and grandchildren to see relatives. Elma graduated from Turner School in Meacham Park and then Douglass High School in Webster Groves, Missouri in June, 1939. Elma received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in January, 1945 from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. She did her practice teaching at Washington School in Jefferson City. In 1971, she received a Master of Arts in Teaching Language Arts Degree from what is now Webster University. Elma began her teaching career in 1945 with a 6th grade class in Greenville, Mississippi. From 1946 to 1951, she taught at Elmwood School in the Ritenour School District. Elma taught eighth grade in the Scudder School District from 1956 to 1960. She taught fourth grade at Smith School in the Berkeley School District for nine years until the 1969-1970 school year when she joined the Kirkwood R-7 School District. She taught at Pittman Elementary until she retired at the end of the 1975-1976 school year. Elma (Alma) believed in education, not only for herself, but also for each student who crossed her path. She touched many lives through her teaching in five school districts and helping others throughout the community. She continued to teach by tutoring even after she retired. Miss Mosley and later Mrs. Webb knew how to have fun with her students but she didn't "play" in the classroom when it was time to learn. Her children and grandchildren will never forget her requirement of good grammar usage - like not ending a sentence with a preposition. Elma professed a hope in Christ as a teenager and served faithfully at the Kirkwood Church of God while she was able. She served not only in the Church of God but at any congregation asking for her service. She began teaching Sunday School at the age of 16. Over the years she served in many capacities: member of the Choir, Usher Board, Trustee Board, Missionary, Youth Leader, and Sunday School Superintendent. She loved the Lord and enjoyed singing His praises. Elma's health began to fail in the spring of 2002. She was cared for at home through a cooperative family effort and caregivers. In April of 2003, at her own request, Elma moved to the Rosewood Care Center in Creve Coeur. She proved that God is in control and it's not over until God says it's over. After receiving hospice care for over three years, she was discharged and moved to Bethesda-Dilworth. She was telling us what not to do until the very end. She went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Elmo was blessed to hold and touch four generations of her offspring. She was called Grandmama and Great. She leaves to cherish her memory: Children, Gloria & Arvel (Gus) Parker and Kem & Karen Mosley; Grandchildren, Rhonda & Bruce Burgett, Roslyn & Jeffery Croft, Arvel Todd & Cynthia Parker, Karmen Parker of Las Vegas, Nevada, Adrian & Melody Mosley, and K.G. Mosley of Tampa, Florida; Great-Grandchildren Bruce Burgett Jr. Tavanna Croft, Brandon Burgett, Andrew Spears, Joshua Parker. Interment -Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery St. Louis, MO 63126 .
