Life Reflection

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Overseer Marion K. Greene was born in Magnolia, Arkansas on October 23, 1939, to the union of Reverend John and Luverda Greene.

He received his elementary and secondary education in the McNeil and Magnolia, Arkansas Public School Systems. He continued his studies at Philander Smith College and the University of Arkansas School of Pharmacy in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Approximately ten years later, Pastor Greene furthered his studies at Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree in 1976. This was a noteworthy accomplishment as he was only the second Black graduate of Washington University Dental School.

A TIME TO GIVE BACK

Dr. Greene used his educational accomplishments to give back to the community and assist with the physical well-being of numerous individuals. His professional journey began as a pharmacist. However, he flourished tremendously when that journey expanded into the field of dentistry. He had a wealth of knowledge and expertise in oral health. His gentle hands and the soothing hum of his voice to gospel music calmed the anxiety that typically comes with a visit to the dentist. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Greene performed much needed dental services for the former St. Louis Avenue Nursing Center/Home, Boonville Correctional Center, and the Clayton Justice Center. He was a member of the Mound City Dental Association (Organization for Black Dentists). Moreover , being the giving man he was— Dr. Greene was a mentor and instructor for others studying in the field of dentistry, some of whom have successful practices today. After nearly 36 years, Dr. Greene retired from dentistry in April 2012.

A TIME TO LOVE

He married First Lady Marvia Greene on July 14, 1962, and was the father of two children, Michael R. Greene and La Sandra B. Greene. Pastor Greene and First Lady Marvia were a Godly example of inseparable love and commitment to God, each other, family, and God's people. Their beautiful union was only separated when Lady Marvia was called home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2004—after almost 42 years of marriage. They are now "together again."

A MAN OF GOD CALLED TO SERVE

Pastor Greene accepted the call into the Gospel Ministry and preached his first official message on October 31, 1976. He was filled with the Holy Ghost in November and baptized in Jesus' Name in December of that year. He was officially ordained as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 1986. In 1988, God placed Elder Greene and his family at Lively Stone Church of God, where he became one of the Assistant Pastors under the leadership of Bishop Alphonso Scott. Here the family remained until Bishop Scott placed them in the Full Gospel Assembly Apostolic Church pastorate in 1996. Pastor Greene's ministry and leadership blessed Full Gospel as God gave him direction and wisdom to serve His people. Upon returning to his home church, Elder Greene continued to serve. Besides preaching and teaching, he could be found in the Church office three days a week on the Prayer Line Desk—faithfully and diligently praying for all needing God's help. He patiently listened to the concerns of many and always had an encouraging word. Elder Greene sincerely prayed over all the requests that came through that desk. Elder Greene was elevated within the Lively Stone Fellowship of Churches to the rank of Overseer. In addition to his ecclesiastical service, Overseer Greene served on the faculty of Rehoboth Bible College. He taught various courses designed to develop and train students aspiring to grow as a leader in Christ. Overseer Greene gave a life of dedication and service in every role he was assigned under Bishop Alphonso Scott and continued to serve just as faithfully under Bishop Lee Scott.
