Life Reflections
Doris Mae Thurman was born in Chapel, Maryland on August 9th,1940 to the union of Andrew Bryant and Anna Bryant. She later moved with her mother and siblings to Cordova, Maryland.
Doris received her education in the Public School System of Easton, Maryland, graduating from Robert Moton High School in June 1958. She moved to Dover in 1962 and attended Delaware State College for 2 years. She met her husband, Willie C. Thurman Jr. in 1963, who served in the US Air Force. They were united in holy matrimony on December 30, 1967 in Dover, Delaware. This union blessed them with four sons.
Doris traveled with Willie while he did three tours of duty being stationed in Japan, the Philippines, England, as well as several locations in the United States. Willie and Doris moved to Scott Air Force base in 1979 and soon after settled in Saint Louis MO. Doris was a homemaker for the majority of the time while traveling and had a history of service in the community. In July 1969 she was awarded a Citation for volunteering in the Vietnamese Baby Lift and Refuge Program. While living in Little Rock, Arkansas, Doris was a member of Grace Chapter #31, Order of the Eastern Stars, Prince Hall Affiliated. Doris' most cherished role in life was raising her boys. She was active in the PTA, the "human taxi" for sports and school activities, the driver's ed instructor, and nurturer and comforter whether the boys were good or bad! Doris' hobbies were gardening, reading novels, sewing and knitting. She also enjoyed cooking, collecting photo albums, playing cards, and spending time with family.
Doris will forever be remembered by her beloved sans William C. Thurman Ill (Stephanie) of O'Fallon, IL and Jerel Thurman Kansas City, MO; treasured grandchildren James E. Jackson, Kayla E. Thurman, William C. Thurman IV, Tyra L. Thurman, Tyesia M. Thurman, Rheanna L. Thurman, Jere! A. Thurman Jr, Samantha A. Thurman; Christopher Caldwell Jr, Latasha Clark (Timothy), and Anthony Toliver, sisters Sadie Forsythe of Dover, DE, Mary Simmons (Welton) and Miki Thurman-Moore of St. Louis, MO; and a host of Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were all blessed to know her.
She is preceded in death by her Husband Willie C. Thurman Jr, sons Wallace L Greene, Victor L Thurman. She is also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and five brothers..
