George Benjamin Gaskin I October 7, 1928 - September 2, 2013 George B. Gaskin was born October 7, 1928 in Maplewood, Missouri. He was the fifth child of seven children of Thomas and Minnie Gaskin. His parents and three siblings preceded him in death, Ernestine, Johnny and Thomas. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. and was baptized on Easter Sunday, 1943, in Church of the Living God, Temple #29. He worked diligently in the church beginning as a Junior Trustee and singing in the choir. He always joked that he couldn't sing, but joined because of the pretty girls. He also served as a Sunday school teacher. Superintendent of Sunday school. Bible class teacher. Director of Vacation Bible School. Chairman of the Trustee Board, Treasurer of the Trustee Board, Chairman of the George T. Watson, Scholar- ship Fund, janitor. grass cutter and wherever else there was a need. He was ordained a Deacon October 15, 2000. In the last presidential election, he formed a committee to use the church vans to provide elderly community members of Richmond Heights with a ride to the polls to vote. He attended elementary school in the Maplewood~Richmond Heights School District and high school at Douglass High School in Webster Groves, MO. After graduating from Douglass he became a truck driver with Dalber's Bakery. Later he worked at E.R. Mowery 5 & 10 store where he became stock manager and later assistant to Mr. Mowery. While working there, he was drafted by the U.S. Army, February 15, 1951. While in the Army he attended Clerk Typist School. Adjutant General School to be a secretary and at some point trained to be a stenographer. After serving as a secretary to an Army Captain he became the night clerk at the post hospital in Camp Chaffee, AR. He then received orders to go to Korea to serve as a stenographer and typist. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked for the u.S. Postal Service from which he retired in 1983. His last job was with Gatesworth Manor where he worked as the Concierge. He had plans to marry a beautiful girl, Louise Goudeau, in June 1952, but had to ship out in May so he married his main squeeze, as he so fondly called her. on April 28, 1952. To this union five children were born. The eldest Gwennette Brownwyn, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Louise; his children, Gayle Benita Shannon (Joseph). Grace Betina Chambly (Waddell). Georgette Belinda Gaskin and George Benjamin Gaskin II; seven grandchildren, Joseph Shannon III (Christina), Erik Shannon (La'Shanda), Leon Chambly. Chevonne Chambly, Cierra Charnbly. Senita Chambly. Toya Simpson (Anthony); twelve great~randchildren; and brothers, Alfred Gaskin (virgie). Harold Gaskin and Richard Gaskin (Ruby).
