Life ReflectionsDaisy Lillian Centers was the only child, born August 28, 1930,in North Little Rock, Arkansas to parents Ardella Muldrow Centersand Isaiah Centers. Daisy lived in Little Rock for 5 years beforemoving with her mother Ardella to St. Louis, MO to live with heruncle Leslie Muldrow.Daily's first religious experience, at age 6, was with the CatholicChurch across the street from whee she lived. The nuns therebrought medicine and orange juice to Daisy when she was sick. This struck up a friendship with them resulting in the nuns teach-ing Daisy and other children in the neighborhood how to countusing silveware and how to set the table.Daisy's mother, Ardella, was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO where Rev. I.T. Moore was the pastor. Daisy haddecided to get baptized on her 13th birthday at Calvary. However,her loving grandfather, Eli Muldrow, who she called "poppa" and lived in Little Rock, had been praying that Daisy would get baptized in Little Rock. That prayer was answered in August on Daisy's 13th birthday. On the last day of revival at St. Stephens Baptist Church, Daisy'sgrandfather, who was also a deacon at the church, got to baptize herin the Arkansas River.Daisy attended Warring Elementary School in January of 1947, graduatedfrom Vashon High School. After graduation, Daisy attended and completed the Missouri Pacific Nurses' Aide class. She worked there for 10 years followed by 2 years in the nursery at the old Christian Hospital in St. Louis City. Daisyalso worked as a cook at Stix Baer & Fuller West Roads (Galleria), Fred Harvey'sRestaurant (KMOX) building), and Manchester Bank (Commerce) for over 5 yearsbefore retiring.Daisy was the mother of one daughter, Linda Centers, and one son Lional Centers. Daisy married Elias Barnett in 1969. They were married for 13 years beforedivorcing.Daisy loved caring for her daughter Linds's 4 children. MiaLissa, Jason, Allison, andTheresa Thompkins, when they were young. Daisy also loved going on familyvacations, cooking, and during her late years, writing poems-5 of which werepub-lished in 2014 publication "Jesus! May I lick the bowl?" by Willie Jewel Tabb. Daisy was a member of New Northside Missionary Baptist church for over 30 years.There she sang in the Senior Choir, was a member of the Missionary Society andchaired the 1980 Women's Day Program with her daughter, Linda. Daisy was aninspiration to many.Daisy dearted this life Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 12:30 at 12:30 p.m. At homesurrounded by her daughter and three of her grandchildren.Daisy leaves to mourn her passing: son Lional centers; daughter Linda, and son-in-lawRobert Tompkins; grand children: MaiLissa, Jason, Allison and theresa Tompkins; anda host of cousins, friends, and church family. Daisy will be greatly missed.Interment:Laurel Hill Cemetery2000 N. Pennsylvania AvenueSt. Louis, MO 63133 .
