Charles William Wells

December 7, 1939 — June 10, 2017

Life ReflectionsCharles William Wells was born on December 7, 1939, in Nelson County, Virginia, to Charles Wells and Clara Harts. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Air force and after four years, he was honorably discharged. After the service, he went to Kokomo, Indiana where he met and married. Wanda Liggett. Of that union, two sons and one daughter were born. They later came to St. Louis, where he united with the first Baptist Church of Robertson under the leadership of Pastor Robert S. Johnson, Sr. There he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and in many other capacities. Charles worked a short time for McDonnell-Douglas. After he was laid off, he decided to form his own business - C. Wells Remodeling & Maintenance Co. He served many corporations and community businesses. He always reached out to hire people who needed help, giving them an opportunity to learn new skills and earn extra money. Charles worked hard at his business until his health began to fail. In 2003, he married Shirley, his loving and supportive wife. They worked together in the business. Together, they united with Greater Grace Church where Charles taught Sunday School and they were active and faithful members. Charles will be remembered for a loving and quiet spirit, his love for the Lord and his family and his steadfast work ethics. Charles passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Select Specialty Care in St. Charles surrounded by his loving family. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife Shirley; two sons Kenneth (Debra), Charles Jr. (Missy); one daughter Sonia; one stepson Kerry Crockett; stepdaughter Holly Woodard; three sisters, Annie Rose Dickens (Perry), Jennie Lee Davis (Donald), Agnes Coltrane; eight grandchildren, two great-grand-children, two daughters-in-law, one sister-in-law Rose Harmon (Edward); nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who dearly loved him.
