ObituaryOn the afternoon of August 25th, 2014, Birdie Lee Holder Hickspassed away at Beauvais Manor on the Park in St. Louis whereshe spent her final days.Birdie lived o be centernarian and was well regarded as thematriach in her family and an elder inher community. Shewas born July 29, 1905 in Tennessee. This woman of substancewas able to lead an etraordinary life because of her strong will,quick wit, and dedication to her family.While he was born in Tennessee, she also lived in Chicago,and she made St. Louis the place where she finally settled andcalled home. Birdie served in a variety of service telated jobsthrough out her life and was enterprising enough to haveowned her own business during her working years. Through,no job pleased her more than her role with her faily. manyfamily members are able t recount that Birdie was reliable,supportive, and encouraging when called upon for assistance.Known as Aunt Birdie to her family in Huntingdon, TN, storiesof her unyielding support are part of town legend.Fun spirited, playing cards was one of her favorite activities.As well, she likeds to travel with her family. What she reallyloved was engaging in good ole conversation that would lead tojoking. It was her custom to offer straight-forward observationwith a healthy dose of laughte.Birdie Lee Holder Hicks was perceded in death by her parents,husband, sisters and brothers. Having bore one son, SammieO. Hicks, Jr. who also preceded her in death, she leaves tocherish her memory her daughter-in-law, Saundra Hicks; hergrandchildren, Alonzo Townsend, Paul Townsend (Andrea),Farad Samuel, Hatim Hicks (Janetta), Mikal Hicks (Maya), KimJones and Stacey Dabney. Also, she leaves to ourn her pass-ing a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, great nieces,nephews, friends and community connections.A traditional Islamic Janazah will be facilitatedInterment:Laurel Hill Cemetery2200 N.
