ObituaryOn May 10, 1931 God planted a new flower in his garden of life. He allowed the earth to embrace its beauty and sweet fragrance for eighty years. In the early evening hour of December 20, 2011, God compassionately selected that flower as a perfect addition to his heavenly bouquet. Bessie Mae Redmond was born to the late Samuel and Nettie Johnson who preceded her in death. She was one of eight siblings, her brother, Burt Johnson (B.J.), sister, Helen Johnson, brother, Robert Johnson, sister Nellie McIntosh, brother, Allen Johnson, and sister, Williabea Weatherspoon all preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory: one brother, Lionell Johnson. She grew up in Webster Groves, Missouri and attended school in the Webster Groves school district. At an early age she accepted Christ and united with First Baptist Church of Webster Groves. Bessie was united in matrimony to Melvin Redmond, Sr. who preceded her in death. She was blessed with eleven children, and numerous grandchildren. She was employed by the Lou Fusz family for over 30 years. Her daughter, Rochelle, her son, Melvin and her daughter, Nellie all preceded her in death. Being surrounded by her family and friends was her true passion. Bessie never met a stranger. She poured out her love to everyone she encountered. For that reason, she was affectionately called "Mama", "Mama Bessie" by many friends and family. She leaves to cherish her memory: 7 daughters, Frances Nichols, Judy Reese, Carol Davis, Phyllis Redmond, Debra Washington, Diane Redmond, and Charlotte Graham; 1 son, Kim Redmond; 32 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren; What an awesome legacy to leave behind in the earth realm! A host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; a special lifelong friend, Althea Webster. Interment -Lake Charles Cemetery7775 St. Charles Rock RoadSt. Louis, MO 63133 .
