Alex Murphy, Jr. is the third child, and first son, born to Alex Murphy, Sr. and Lucille (nee Luckett) Murphy onFebruary 11, 1945 at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis, MO.A Time to Plant... Alex was raised in a Christian home and learned the values of family and relationship at an early age. He was taken to church, received Christ, and was baptized, and experienced fellowship and membership as a youth at Christ Southern Mission Missionary Baptist Church.A Time to Love... On October 15, 1967 Alex joined in holy matrimony with Claudine E. Cothrine. God blessed their union with 48years of marriage, and blessed them with one daughter, LaJuan, who is the apple of he father's eye. There was nothing more important to Alex than loving and caring for his family and with each passing year the love only grew stronger and stronger.A Time to Build... Alex graduated from Charles H. Sumner High School as a part of the Marching Bulldogs Band in the Class of 1964. While a student he joined St. James AME Church under the pastoral care of The Rev. Frank M. Reid, Jr. There he worshipped, married his wife for life, presented his only daughter for baptism, and served as a Trustee and Choir Member until his wife received her first Pastoral appointment. He continued his education at St. Louis Community College before being drafted into The United States Army in 1965. He was honorably discharged after 27 years and retired from Federal Service with the United States Postal Service in 2009, for a total of 43 years 11 months of federal service.A Time to Laugh... Alex loved his grandchildren deeply and enjoyed spending time with them immensely. When asked why he fought so hardto overcome health challenges he stated, "I want to see my grandchildren grow up. My grandson is smart and he can play that basketball. Mygranddaughter is very intelligent and a great artist."A Time to Pass On... After a long struggle with failing health and medical challenges that presented opportunities to see God's miracles manifestover and over again, Alex departed this life on November 10, 2015 at 10:11 am.He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Rev. Claudine E. Murphy; daughter and son-in-love, LaJuan and Simeon Williams;two grandchildren, Simeon, II and LaiJeon; 6 siblings, Jeanette Umstead Perry, Catherine Annette Johnson, Doncella Gonzalez, Pamela Murphy,Deborah Murphy, William Carl (Patricia) Murphy, a brother-in-love, James R. (Barb) Cothrine; a sister-in-love, Rev. JoAnne Murphy Owens; anuncle; an aunt; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
