Life ReflectionMartha Ramona Cothrine-Belton was born on July 16, 1950 to Mary Ruth Peebies-Cothrine and James Levi Cothrine Sr. in St. Louis, MO. She was the fourth born of seven children. Ms. Martha Cothrine met and married her high school sweetheart, Mr, John Harris Belton Jr., on September 7, 1970. To this loving union, one son was born, Carlos Donte Belton. Martha and John were married and in love for 46 years. What an accomplishment and a sterling example to all! As a Wife, Mrs. Belton was a good homemaker and a family-oriented person just like her mother. Martha Belton loved family gatherings and celebrations. Her doors were always open for good times, laughter and joy! Martha loved celebrating birthdays with friends an family and was particularly fond of cake, as those who knew her weil can attest.Mama Martha was a real, old-school mother; she believed in home training, manners, consistency, and discipline. She participated in various parent groups in support of her son. To name a few, she worked with the Matthew Dickey Boys Club, the McKeeven Elementary School PTA, and the St. Louis Blues Track Club. Mama Martha was a true cheerleader! Martha was educated in the Si. Louis Public Schools. She attended Thomas Benton Elementary School and William Beaumont High School. Upon graduating from Beaumont, Ms. Cothrine enrolled at Harris Stowe State University (formerly Harris Teachers College) and completed her education at Tarki College in St. Louis, MO. This was the beginning of a lifetime filled with studying, learning and training that resulted in both her personal and professional growth. For 32 years, Martha Belton was employed with the St. Louis Postal Data Center, from which she retired in 2006. During her career, she worked as a Systems Analyst and served as a Project Manager. Ms. Cothrine-Beiton received most of her computer and technical training from IBM and Washington UniversioL Her various trainings gave her opportunities to travel broadly and provided her with many certifications, accolades, awards, and accomplishments. She set a tone for her fatnily as to how to achieve through self:motivation, education, perseverance, tolerance, and hard work More importantly, she knew how to lean on Jesus through it all.For about 20 years, Martha Beiton also worked as a consultant and system designer irvith Christian Computer Consultants, an organization that size, her sister, and a professional colleague confounded. To top it off Martha was a true Fashionista! She loved to shop, coordinate, accessorize, and dress for the occasion at hand. She gave up an opportunity to model because of her decision to prioritize family, work, and church obligations. Martha was an unquestionably classy lady with a style and flair that was uniquely her! Marty, as she was affectionately called by so any in her adult years, was truly a Christian soldier. She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and sinew. At an early age, she confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized into the Newstead Avenue Baptist Church where she participated in the Sunday School, Baptist Training Union (BTU), Vacation Bible School, and Choir.In 2004, Marty began to worship at the SL Louis Family Church (SLFC), where she faithfully served in numerous capacities. She was a greeter, a member of the 12 Noon Prayer Group, and a student in various Bible Study classes. Ms. Marty also worked with young people during the annual summer camp known as JUMP, This soldier definitely 'mew The Word" and applied it in all aspects of her i'Ve. Members of the church referred to her as "Ms.. Amplified," as Marty Belton read eloquently from this version of the Bible.. She was able to drive home whatever message there was in her gentle, gracious, warm and to manner% She would often say that Jesus was always kind ....what a word! Before she joined SLFC, Marty fellowshipped at other churches throughout the St. Louis area, but she found a true and lasting church home in SLFC and its teachings. As part of their daily lives, she and her husband had de-votion in their home before sunrise. Through the years, she and John also hosted Bible study sessions with family and friends. "Ms. Amplified" loved music in general, but was especially drawn to contemporaty gospel, soulful gospel, jazz, anthem, instrumental, and string music. As a young child, she had the opportunity to take piano lessons and in the 7th grade she took violin lessons. Ai an early age, her soul was anchored in the Lord, and she sang praises to his name. Psalms 91 was one of her any favorite scriptures. Her reading was, after all, like music to the ears.On June 23, 20177 Martha "Marty" 'Ms Amplified' Ramona Cothrine-Beiton transitioned after a brief, swit illness. Quietly and peacefully, she went home to rest and be with Jesus! She leaves to cherish her memory and carry, on her legacy many loved ones: her husband, John Harris Belton Jr , her son, Carlos Donte' Belton,. 2 granddaughters, Alexandria Nicole and Kaileigh Simone Belton; her sister, Rosalyn Maria (Jonathan) Livingston; 3 brothers, James Levi Cothrine II, John Filbert (Yvonne) Cothrine Sr., Samuel ierome(Sheila) Cothrine; an aunt, Margaret Cothrine; an uncle, John Roberl Peebles; a sister-cousin, Rev. Claudine Murphy; and a-goddaughter., LaJuan (Simeon) Williams. She also leaves behind 1I nieces, 9 nephews, and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins , in-laws, friends (including her BFF), colleagues, church ffiernbers, and neighbors, She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Titus Cothrine; her sister, Naomi Johnson; and her nephew Sean Cothrine.
