Celebrating A LifeMaurice was born on Monday, July 4, 1924. After some controversy, it was decided that this second little boy born to Nathaniel Burley McCall and Della Louise St. James should actually be named James Wilbert McCall! Although his name was James, everyone knew him as "Skeets"! Skeets struggled with some illness, but came through as amiracle child ....muchas hedidlater in life! He attended Douglass School but left just shy of graduation tolendhisskill asawelder tothewar effort in the shipyards of San Francisco. But he never forgot his sweetheart, Margaret "Bunny" Shepperd! They wrote everyday and he came home to marry her on March 2, 1944! Skeets and Bunny had four children but were always willing to take a load of kids to the park or the pool or even to Robertsville and the family property there! Skeets spent the last few months of his life in and out of the hospital. But on Monday, November 11, 2013, Skeets went peacefully to rejoin the little girl he had loved all his life.Skeets leaves a huge void in the McCall family and will be sorely missed by his children: Karen (Sylvester) Mozee, Cathy Mart, James "Jamie" McCalL .Jr.. and Loris "Mikie" (Fred) Williams. "Popl'op" will always be remembered by his grandchildren: Kyron and Kasey (Billye) Mozee and Kristin and Brandon Williams; and his great-grandchildren, The Ks ~ Kayla, Kyra, Kamryn, Kaden, Karter and Keaton. His brothers, Melvin "Smokey" McCalL will regale us with stories about his big brother! Ills sisters- and brothers-In-law: Theola "Tulie" Woolfork, Glenn "Petey" (Aletha) Shepperd, Marion "Mamie" (Dorsey "Dee') Jessup and MaryLee "Deelree" Johnson will cherish the memories of the 69 years he spent as part of their family.
