Life's RelectionFrances Winston Harlan was born in Mississippi on March 18, 1923. She was the second child of Edward Winston, her dear father and the firstborn of Zula Mae Winston, her dear mother. She was preceded in death by both parents; her brother, Kelly Winston; two sisters, Bessie Winston and Ruth Winston Parker; and a granddaughter, Anita Harlan. Proudly, she was the devoted mother of three children: James Edward, Yvonne, and John Walter. They all preceded her in death. Frances joined a Cooksville church, AME Zion Methodist and was baptized at an early age. She completed her education while living in Mississippi and then moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1944. Later, Frances joined St. James AME Zion Methodist Church in 1958. She moved to Richmond Heights, Missouri in 1959 and joined St. Mark United Methodist Church. Finally, Frances joined Immanuel United Methodist Church in Maplewood, MO where she attended until her health failed. She leaves to cherish her memory: three grandchildren, Dr. Vernon Harlan of St. Louis, MO, Audrey Payne (Cedric) of st. Louis, MO, and Melissa Ballard of Lansing, MI; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; four great-grandchildren, DeMarco Payne, Kashif Payne (Tameka). Breona Harlan and Vernon Harlan, Jr.; one great-great-grandson, Kaelan Payne; an in-law, Litisha Ussery-Itarlan of Columbus, MS; as well as many other family members and friends who will dearly miss her.
