Life ReflectionsFannye Bernice Houston was a passionate gregarious woman who relished life with a stylish flair. Known for her love of shoes, hats and all forms of clothing, Fannye delighted in finding a "great deal". Born in Memphis, Tennessee, she was the 4th child of Alonzo and Ardie Mae Dillon; Ms. Houston was predeceased by her parents and older brothers, Elce and George.Ms. Houston moved to St. Louis as a toddler, attended schools in Webster Groves and in 1957 graduated from Sumner High School. She was employed for 31 years by St. Louis. She was employed for 31 years by St. Louis Public Schools retiring as an Office Manager in June 2000. Fannye was blessed in matrimony to Robert C. Houston, III for almost 57 years. The two believed in hard work principled parenting while also enjoying a dynamic social life. They took time to travel and on many weekends enjoyed entertaining, socializing with favorite friends and dressing to the nines. She also loved theater, gardening, colleting antiques, and playing Bid Whist on Friday's with the card club she founded.Fannye was masterful at organization and used these skills to manage her home, professional life and community involvement. She was fervent and expressive about her beliefs and as a result ascended to leadership roles throughout her life. She was a Trustee and member of Antioch Baptist Church for over 50 years. Ms. Houston was enthusiastically engaged in numerous church ministries including Ruth Circle Treasurer, Brunch Committee Co-Chair, and Third Sunday Ushers Chairperson. Ms. Houston was exceptionally active in her community, University City. She was a member of the Board of Adjustments, a U. City School District Tutor & Mentor and Secretary for Block Unit 918. In reflection, one city official noted: Fannye's twinkling eyes and infectious smile lit up the Police Focus Group meetings where she was central pillar. She gave so much to her city and inspired us to give more. Knowing Fannye Houston made me a better person."She leaves to cherish her memory, husband Robert, sons Michael (Annick), Robert (Kathleen), Troy and daughter Kimberly Houston-Philpot (Kent); siblings, Edna Roach (Hilra), Elna Allen, Thomas Dillon (Glenda), Deborah A. Harvey, Brenda reed (J.R.); eight granddaughters; six grand-sons and 14 great-grandchildren who fondly called her "Nana" along with a host of beloved relatives, friends, neighbors and colleagues who all felt taller in her presence. We know Fannye Houston is now in heaven..."just kicking along".Interment:Lake Charles Park Cemetery7775 St. Charles Rock RoadSt. Louis, MO 63114 .
